Custom Work

I was asked to piece blocks together that various groups of children decorated for the Cincinnati Art Museum for Quilt Month (March). It hangs in the Education Room right now.  There were many different kinds of textiles and embellishments used that an iron could not be used, so I pulled the rows as tight as I could stitched row by row onto the muslin lining. The polar fleece blocks are held in place with hand-sewn buttons that Griffin (4 yrs old) helped me with by choosing which buttons to use. The felt blocks are hung by yarn loops to one another and hooked over buttons at the top.

It was definitely a creative challenge! 3-2005

The Art Deco building hangs in the offices of Gastric Rebar in Cincinnati, OH.

The Mountains Quilt hangs in their house.

Solar Awakening is used on my bed. It symbolizes "energy" & "light" coming from the third chakra: the solar plexus. The center seat for all emotions. This is where stress is felt: in the digestive system. It is also a place I have blocked off; who wants to hurt? It is opening up & I am getting better at letting my feelings out.

pinwheels & a healing poem in permanent ink.

Harley Davidson tees and old jeans were given me to make into a quilt. Ms. Nancy Wade was very happy with the result. I stitched on either side of the joining seams of the jean border in gold thread to mimic the gold stitching in Blue Jeans. There are pockets in a row across the back (hate to throw them away).                                       ====>

Wedding Quilt for my brother and sister-in-law who reside in Florida (Michael and Brigette Shiveley). The center star was cut not-quite-right so I turned it into applique petals with a border of Snail's Trail and 4-Patches. There is feather quilting in variegated purple thread, black filler and studded with Cherie Meineke-Johnson's crystals to give some sparkle. To be shown at the Machine Quilter's Showcase in May of 2005 at Overland Park, KS. Received a Teacher's Ribbon at the show.

Seasonal Colourwash  This is commissioned quilt for Joyce Keeshin to give to her fiance for Christmas 2004. She found a colourwash quilt book at the local quilt shop and asked me to make a seasonal one. Let me tell you.... it was a job! Lots and lots of different chunkies, reachies, transitionals, etc! The quilting spiral doesn't meet all the way in the center to try to minimize the density of the quilting but still keep the effect of an outward spiral. Each seasonal corner has a different overall quilting design: summer=roses; spring=trillium; winter=holly; fall=fall leaves. The batting is split in two: summer and spring is filled with polyester, and winter and fall has wool (each person has their comfort level).

Anvil  Commissioned for the Shultz's youngest daughter, Claire, in 1930's reproduction prints and solids for upgrading to a "big kid" bed. She has a crib size in the same pattern and colorways. The border is quilted with butterflies and roses. There is a "pointed oval" chain quilted in the lavendar fabric and filled in with the mums design.
